Proposed agendas for the Assembly Committees have been posted. To find them:
Step 1: Go to pc-biz
Step 2: Click on the “Committees” tab
Step 3: Scroll to the committee you would like to see (and click)
Step 4: Look for the tab that says “Schedule”
Using the committee to which I have been assigned — Assembly Committee #19, Health Issues — you can see on the schedule that we are expecting to go through orientation and one (1) of our six items on Sunday afternoon. On Monday, we will have one hour of open hearings, and then consideration of the rest of the five items tentatively assigned plus any commissioners’ resolutions that are received.
Now, it is important to know that these agendas are proposed — and — and, they are only tentative time schedules. Unless my committee gets some controversial commissioners’ resolutions, I cannot imagine that we will meet any longer than Monday.
A reminder: later items on similar topics are often “answered” by the action taken earlier. Because that is true, veteran Assembly watchers often look to the order proposed on the agenda to pick up on some bias or direction that the leadership is trying to guide the commissioners. Sometimes yes, sometimes no; but in the time before the Assembly convenes, guessing and prognosticating are favorite sports.
That’s it for today. Commissioner Committee #3, General Assembly Procedure on Monday.
Ah, each committee member has discovered that the Catholics were right: there is a purgatory. It happens every 2 years to Presbyterians. And I suspect in a good many other denominations too.
